YouTube Offline Availability

Youtube Availability Will Be Offline Now In India


In the coming few weeks, much of YouTube is going to be available offline in India, said Caesar Sengupta, vice president, product management at Google in the capital on Monday. "It's a very common way to use YouTube. You find videos you like, you tend to watch them over and over again," he said at the launch of Android One in the capital.

A Google spokesperson says that the offline availability will be the content owner's prerogative. "It will be available by default. Content owners can decide if they want to opt into it," the spokesperson said, adding that views of the videos and ads will be kept track of offline as well.

Kanan Gill, who runs a YouTube series called Pretentious Movie Reviews along with fellow film reviewer Biswa Kalyan Rath, says that while the idea itself is "awesome", it is something that will need testing for content uploaders like him once made available. "It probably makes sense to have longer videos and podcasts made available offline so that people can watch it or listen to it at leisure," says Gill, who has nearly 85,000 subscribers to his YouTube channel.

Standup comedian Rohan Joshi, part of the group AIB that uploads humorous videos on YouTube regularly, says that if there is an accurate way to monitor views and ads, the new feature would work well. "There are a lot of internet connectivity issues in India. So that way, it is good, more people will watch these videos," says Joshi. AIB has over 6 lakh YouTube subscribers.

So far, web services like "keepvid" and "clipconverter" could be used to download YouTube videos on to a laptop or a desktop. However, the legality of using such services is questionable. In this case, a user would have the content owner's consent to have the video available on their device, offline.

Apple's website collapsed under increased traffic last night after eager customers waited until midnight to order the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Users logging on to the online Apple Store at midnight as the iPhones went on sale reported slow load times, and a lengthy delay in the devices becoming available.

Some service appears to have been restored after about 30 minutes. But this morning, the store was down for some users. Its availability appears to be intermittent.

Some customers reported that the iPhone was available on carrier websites and the Apple Store app, but not the desktop site. There were reports that the iPhone 6 had sold out through some carriers.

The delays in the iPhone 6 becoming available in the online store frustrated many customers, as they had waited until the early hours of the morning to order the new phone.


The non-functional online store is the third glitch in a row to plague the launch of iPhone 6. At the launch event, the live stream failed for 25 minutes, leaving viewers staring at a fuzzy test-card and listening to commentary in Chinese. Then Apple delayed the iPhone 6 launch in China after failing to get regulatory approval on time (or, as conspiracy theorists would have it, the company wanted to punish its wireless carrier partners for leaking pictures of the new phones on their web sites prior to the launch).

In regions without mobile broadband, or where it’s still too expensive to have a data plan, other ways to connect to the web are always welcome. Say hello to Cosmos Browser, which provides web access using SMS so that you can view web pages without using Wi-Fi or even a lowly 2G network. Using Cosmos on Android, you enter a web address which is sent to back-end servers through a text message. The servers strip out CSS and JavaScript from the content at that URL, compress the information and sends it back via SMS. The host app then decompresses the site info and renders the HTML. Clever!

Apple To Launch Golden Ipad

Apple will launch a gold version of its upcoming new iPad Air, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. We saw the news on both Apple Insider and MacRumors. The blogs cited Kuo's prediction because he has had an uncanny track record of getting things right ahead of time when it comes to new Apple products.

The mystery is when Apple will launch a gold iPad Air 2. It is probably not going to happen on Sept. 9, the date Apple has scheduled a media event to launch iPhone 6 and a smart watch. Apple has, however, scheduled another event for October - and that could be "Gold iPad Day," MacRumors suggests.

Here is what Kuo believes the iPad Air 2 will have:

In light of limited development resources and the fact that iPad Air contributes more to Apple's sales and earnings than iPad mini, we think that only iPad Air 2 will see a major upgrade in specs this year, including anti-reflective coating for the cover lens, full lamination for the touch panel, a gold-colored metal casing, an A8 processor, Touch ID/ fingerprint recognition and an 8-megapixel rear camera. iPad mini may be upgraded with fingerprint recognition, if any.

Some people were skeptical that Apple would ever make a gold iPad. But there was huge buzz about the gold iPhone 5S, especially in Asia. Last year, photos began emerging from China of an alleged gold iPad. Those pictures - which we're re-running here, just to tease you - were probably fakes or concept renderings.


Nonetheless, it sure would look beautiful.

First Look At Moto X+1

Motorola's New Smartphone HelloMotoHK - Leaked


Motorola is only weeks away from unveiling its new smartphone, but we may already have a good idea of what it looks like. Following previous leaks, new images posted by Facebook page HelloMotoHK reportedly show the Moto X+1's front panel alongside the Moto X.

According to the leaked image, Motorola's new flagship will be slightly larger than the Moto X. Its front speakers appear to be noticeably bigger too, although the overall design seems to be the same as the Moto X. Android news blog Droid-Life (via BGR) first spotted the images on Facebook.

HelloMotoHK also posted an image of this front panel alongside previously leaked images of the Moto X+1 to outline their similarities. The same design, including the elongated front speaker, is clearly visible in each photo.


Motorola is expected to officially unveil the Moto X+1 alongside a few other products at its Chicago event on Sept. 4. Other than a bigger design, the Moto X+1 is expected to offer faster performance and a sharper screen than its predecessor. The company is also expected to reveal a new version of the Moto G, Motorola's budget smartphone, in addition to smart earbuds and more details about its Moto 360 smartwatch.

The first ever smartphone - a $900 clunky IBM Simon mobile phone - has turned 20 toay.

The phone with a battery life of one hour was developed by IBM and the American cellular company BelSelf and went on sale in 1994.

At around 23 cm long and weighing half a kg, it was about half the size of a house brick.

 "It was called Simon because it was simple and could do almost anything you wanted," the Irish Times reported.

With its green LCD screen, Simon had touch screen technology.

Its software allowed users to write notes, draw, update their calendar and contacts and send and receive faxes, as well as allowing calls.

"It has all the components of a smartphone, including a slot in the bottom to insert different applications such as mapping ones, spreadsheets and games. So it was really a forerunner to the iPhone," Charlotte Connelly from the London's Science Museum was quoted as saying.

Around 50,000 handsets were sold.


In October, the relic phone will go on display as part of a permanent exhibition on the history of communication and information technology at London's Science Museum.

Pictures leaked to technology website TechRadar add fuel to the rumours that Apple's forthcoming smartphone will have a larger screen

New leaked photos of the iPhone 6 reinforce rumours that Apple's forthcoming device will have a larger screen, slimmer frame and rounded edges.

The photos, leaked to TechRadar, were reportedly taken by an Apple beta tester, but the site claims it cannot verify their authenticity.

However, the appearance of the device in the pictures is in line with other leaked photos and renders of the iPhone 6, suggesting that they may indeed be genuine.

Apple will unveil its eagerly-awaited iPhone at a "big" media event on September 9, according to reports. Judging by past releases, the iPhone 6 could then go on sale to the public from Friday, September 19.

The iPhone 6, Apple's ninth iPhone model, is expected to be released in two different sizes – 4.7-inches and 5.5-inches – with the smaller of the two to be made available first.

Both versions are expected to use in-cell touch panel technology – built into the screen and allowing for thinner construction than with standard touch panel films – that was introduced with the iPhone 5.


Like its predecessor, the new model is expected to come in silver, gold and space grey.

As much as we like to get away from it all and leave the laptop at home, sometimes you just have to stay connected. Maybe you're traveling for work, or maybe you're uploading those vacation pics and videos to update the family back home. Two new websites are trying to make it easier to avoid these frustrating situations. Speedspot.org and HotelWiFiTest.com both launched last year, offering users the chance to run simple online speed tests while logged into their hotel's WiFi network. These tests anonymously check your connection speed, verify the hotel you're in, and log the results. The data is then compiled to create crowd sourced ratings for the performance of each hotel's network.

The benefits are obvious: Next time you're trying to decide between two hotels for a work trip, why not pick the one that offers free, speedy WiFi? It seems like a little thing, but when you have to get some work done or want to video chat with someone back home, a solid connection can be invaluable. Plus, if you know you'll need WiFi every night, getting it for free could save you $10–15 per night.

HTC Mystery Device

HTC to launch mystery device on August 19

 

HTC sent out invites earlier today to a New York City event on August 19, leaving us to wonder what it could have it store.

The One (M8) maker offered no details on what the event will be about, though a representative said in an email, "We think you'll want to be there."

This may be the unveiling of a US-only product(s) as it appears HTC America is running the show, though that could just be a matter of logistics. Doors are scheduled to open at 7am PT/10am ET/3pm GMT/12 am AEST August 20.

HTC smartwatch? New Nexus tablet? What??

Calm down, we're getting to that. HTC has a few potential products it could show come August 19, not least among them an Android Wear smartwatch. Unofficially dubbed the One Wear, it would make sense for HTC to get into the smartwatch game as its Android compatriots/competitors are already selling Google OS-backed devices.

We even caught glimpse of a possible design in a recent HTC-produced video. The company did warn us not to look too deeply into that video — they were just playing, guys — but of course, that could have been a ploy to throw us off the scent, too.

Another possibility is the Nexus 8, a device that's had HTC's name attached to it in several rumors. Google IO came and went with no new Nexus, so the time seems ripe for a tab-tastic reveal.

Finally, HTC may be readying a smartphone, one that's a US exclusive, or not. Last we heard the company was tinkering with a HTC M8 for Windows, so its quiver is full of rumored products.

We'll just have to wait until August 19 to see which one it decides to unleash.

Mobile Gadgets That Connect to Wi-Fi without a Battery

 

A new breed of mobile wireless device lacks a battery or other energy storage, but it can still send data over Wi-Fi. These prototype gadgets, developed by researchers at the University of Washington, get all the power they need by making use of the Wi-Fi, TV, radio, and cellular signals that are already in the air.

The technology could free engineers to extend the tendrils of the Internet and computers into corners of the world they don’t currently reach. Battery-free devices that can communicate could make it much cheaper and easier to widely deploy sensors inside homes to take control of heating and other services.

Smart thermostats on the market today, such as the Nest, are limited by the fact that they can sense temperature only in their immediate location. Putting low-cost, Wi-Fi-capable, and battery-free sensors behind couches and cabinets could provide the detailed data needed to make such thermostats more effective. “You could throw these things wherever you want and never have to think about them again,” says Shyam Gollakota, an assistant professor at the University of Washington who worked on the project.

The battery-free Wi-Fi devices are an upgrade to a design the same group demonstrated last year—those devices could only talk to other devices like themselves (see “Devices Connect with Borrowed TV Signals and Need No Power Source”). Versions were built that could power LEDs, motion detectors, accelerometers, and touch-sensitive buttons.

Adding Wi-Fi capabilities makes the devices more practical. Gollakota hopes to establish a company to commercialize the technology, which should also be applicable to other wireless protocols, such as Zigbee or Bluetooth, that are used in compact devices without access to wired power sources, he says. A paper on the new devices will be presented at the ACM 
Sigcomm conference in Chicago in August.

Engineers have worked for decades on ways to generate power by harvesting radio signals from the air, a ubiquitous resource thanks to radio, TV, and cellular network transmitters. But although enough energy can be collected that way to run low-powered circuits, the power required to actively transmit data is significantly higher. Harvesting ambient radio waves can collect on the order of tens of microwatts of power. But sending data over Wi-Fi requires at least tens of thousands of times more power—hundreds of milliwatts at best and typically around one watt of power, says Gollakota.

The Washington researchers got around that challenge by finding a way to have the devices communicate without having to actively transmit. Their devices send messages by scattering signals from other sources—they recycle existing radio waves instead of expending energy to generate their own.

To send data to a smartphone, for example, one of the new prototypes switches its antenna back and forth between modes that absorb and reflect the signal from a nearby Wi-Fi router. Software installed on the phone allows it to read that signal by observing the changing strength of the signal it detects from that same router as the battery-free device soaks some of it up.
The battery-free Wi-Fi devices can’t harvest enough energy to receive and decode Wi-Fi signals in the conventional way. But they can detect the presence of the individual units, or “packets,” that make up a Wi-Fi transmission. To send data to the battery-free device, a conventional Wi-Fi device sends a specific burst of packets that lets the receiving device know it should listen for a transmission. The data is then is encoded in a stream of further packets with gaps interspersed between them. Each packet signals a 1 and each gap a 0 of the digital message.

Ranveer Chandra, a senior researcher in mobile computing at Microsoft Research, says the technology could help accelerate dreams of being able to deploy cheap, networked devices that have been slow to arrive. “Given the prevalence of Wi-Fi, this provides a great way to get low-power Internet of things devices to communicate with a large swath of devices around us,” he says. RFID tags, which also lack batteries, are the closest technology in use today, says Chandra. But they can only communicate with specialized reader devices, he says. The Washington approach fits better with existing infrastructure.

However, increasing the range of the system will be important for it to be widely useful, notes Chandra. The upcoming paper on the technology reports a range of only 65 centimeters, which barely spans a small table, let alone a single room in a house. Gollakota says that in recent, still unpublished experiments, the range has been extended to just over two meters, and 10 meters and beyond should be possible.

The Weird Thing About The Facebook Page For Apple's iPhone


There is a Facebook page for iPhone, and it has nearly 3.5 million fans. But it's not run by Apple.
It's a fan page. Apple doesn't actually have a Facebook page for iPhone.
In fact, Apple's presence on Facebook is inconsistent. There is a page for the App Store. And a (barely updated) page for Apple Inc. There is also a page for iTunes. The iTunes page has 32 million likes. But iPhone, the biggest consumer electronics brand in the world, has no official presence in the largest social media venue on the planet.

I was talking with a social media marketing executive recently, and he regarded this as madness. Facebook fanbases can become a huge asset to a company. They can be used for customer relations, or to show users how to do new things with existing products.
A Facebook page would be perfect for the iPhone - there are a gazillion functions on iPhone that most consumers don't even know exist. And yet, Apple lets this vast reservoir go to waste.
There are two theories about this:
The first is that Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller doesn't "get" social media. When Apple's marketing division went through a crisis in 2013 - and the company began the process of looking beyond its longtime ad agency, TBWA Media Arts Lab - TBWA suggested that maybe Apple should at least begin monitoring social media, to see how its brand stacked up against rivals like Samsung over time.
Schiller saw no need for it. He told TBWA in an email:
I think paying money for social media tracking tools is nuts. It is easy to track social media, I do it every day, there are lots of summary feeds, groups, and notification tools built right in to the social networking sites, all free.
(i think the guys at samsung sat around a coffee table watching Twitter and Facebook feeds and didn't need to pay for anything in the example below)
One might also say the idea of Schiller personally tracking Apple's social media mentions himself is also kinda nuts. That would be a huge undertaking.
Social media is the most powerful new marketing tool of the current century. It can make or break companies and brands. Samsung launched the Galaxy SIII on Facebook, for instance. Most large companies have social media teams consisting of dozens of people, even when they're only tracking consumer feedback.
From this perspective, Apple appears to be ignoring one of the best assets it has - its loyal army of fans. (And it's not clear that Apple's advertising has emerged from its own crisis, either.)
The second explanation is best summarized in this CNBC story about why Apple doesn't have a Twitter account either. "Apple has nothing to gain by creating an account," Belus Capital analyst Brian Sozzi told CNBC. "Apple isn't going to be like Starbucks and run promoted tweets offering dollars off a product for a limited time. Apple is a premium experience all around, you go to Apple, they do not go to you."
CNBC pointed out how disinterested Apple is in social media feedback by pointing to this YouTube video for one of its recent ads for iPad, which asks, "We're humbled and inspired by what people do with iPad. So we set out to capture some of their stories. What will your verse be?"

Amazon Fire: The Phone That Makes You a Star

Amazon took its time in launching the Fire phone, and it shows. Where you might expect a device carelessly thrown together to capitalize on the popularity of the Kindle Fire tablets, you instead find a remarkably well-designed piece of technology. And it's fun to use, too.

Even without its fancy marquee features, the Fire phone is an odd duck. It's the first and only phone to run Amazon's forked version of Android, Fire OS. Yet Amazon's smartphone experience doesn't feel anything like a 1.0. The company has learned a thing or two about user experience from its Kindle Fire tablets, and it shows in the Fire phone.

Animations, for instance, are fast and buttery-smooth. The display responds fluidly to touch almost all the time — the hallmark of a fast processor optimized for a specific device. Even the phone's dialogue boxes have a nicely textured design.
But all those are just consequences of Amazon's clear goal here: Design a phone that people will want to immerse themselves in. Everything about the Fire phone is designed to catch your eye, hold your attention and reward you for … doing anything, really.

The approach may feel very Apple-like, but the implementation is entirely different. The Fire phone is really like no other smartphone that's come before it … partly because of interesting technological tricks, and partly because of the laser-like focus on Amazon customers and services.

Hybrid theory

The software may resemble Android, but the Fire phone's design clearly took a few cues from Apple. The flat black slab with rounded corners looks a lot like an iPhone at a distance, and the glass back is similar to the iPhone 4/4S. However, the tiny slab of a home button hints at the Android DNA within. As Mashable's creative visual storyteller Jeff Petriello puts it, "It looks like an iPhone and an Android had a baby."
The Fire phone's 4.7-inch display feels just right, confirming that Motorola was onto something when it settled on that size for the Moto X — it's about as big as you can get and still comfortably operate with one hand. The 1,280 x 720 resolution results in a very crisp 312 pixels per inch (ppi). Plenty of phones go higher, of course, but with little benefit.
You can only get Amazon Fire from AT&T for now, and it costs $199.99 (for 32GB) with a two-year contract (you can also get it contract-free under AT&T's Next program which divides the cost into monthly payments). The device currently lacks Bluetooth 4.0, so don't buy Fire if you want to use it with a wearable, but the radio is there, so a software update may unlock those features.
The fundamental UI of the Fire phone is similar to Amazon's Kindle Fire tablets: There's a strip of humongous app icons that you can scroll through horizontally, with the most recent content from each app listed underneath. A smaller home row of apps (phone, messages, email and web browser) sits along the bottom.
Being a quasi-Android phone, most apps feel like their Android counterparts ... until you start looking for the back button. There isn't one; to go back, you swipe up from the bottom of the screen. If you missed this tip in the initial tutorial, however, you might find yourself helplessly trapped in an album of your friend's Facebook profile pictures, with no way to escape without closing the app.

The phone that watches you

Look at the Fire phone for more than a few seconds, and the first thing you'll notice are the four tiny circles in every corner of the front panel. Each one is a camera paired with an infrared sensor, and they provide the magic behind the Fire phone’s “Dynamic Perspective”feature.
Dynamic Perspective is the simulated 3D effect where the images on the phone move with your eye. The four cameras are constantly scanning your face, looking at you as you look at the phone. Turn to the right, and an image or icon will tilt left; turn left, it'll turn right.
Only images and apps made to work with Dynamic Perspective — such as the custom lock-screen backgrounds — will respond in this way, although Amazon has opened the feature up to developers, and the first games to use it are available now. The feature even extends to basic UI features, including the home screen, app icons — even text in menus.
The effect, which works for anyone looking at the phone and requires zero setup, is really more of a trick than a feature. However, I like the philosophy behind Dynamic Perspective, which essentially shines a spotlight on the customer. 
When it comes to the Fire phone, you're the star of your smartphone experience, and everything on the phone reacts to you.
It's certainly a bit eerie at times; with the phone sitting face-up on my desk, I realized it would make the status bar visible whenever I'd look at it. But there's also a refreshing honesty with a phone that "looks" at you. In the context of the neverending privacy vs. convenience conflict, the Fire phone's Dynamic Perspective is a continual reminder that our devices are a window that either side can look through.
That's not to say the feature violates privacy in any way, of course. It's really just some visual candy, and it's easy enough to turn off. It's also a bit buggy — I quickly discovered that allowing app logins for Lastpass inadvertently disabled Dynamic Perspective. But I'm sure quirks like that will be fixed quickly with software updates.
If Dynamic Perspective has any benefit, it's in the scrolling. When you're reading an article in Amazon's Silk browser, you can scroll the text by tilting the phone backward. You can slow it down, or even reverse it, by adjusting the angle. It really works well — Amazon chose a appropriately extreme angle to start the scroll, so it's hard to accidentally activate.
If you like the idea of giving your thumb a break from scrolling, you'll love the the Fire phone's gestures. The Fire phone's UI is centered around three screens: The app's content (in the middle), the navigation menu (on the left) and "extras" (on the right). You get to the nav and the extras by either tilting the phone left and right, or just swiping from the edge of the screen.
This kind of gesture-based UI is a subway commuter's dream: You can hold the phone in one hand and navigate apps without stretching your thumb or resorting to two-handed operation. As much as I like the HTC One M8, it's a little big to comfortably use while holding onto a pole, carrying a drink, or holding a sleeping child.

Firefly

No, Amazon hasn't revived Joss Whedon's short-lived sci-fi TV series, it's borrowed the name for the Fire phone's other marquee feature: Firefly. In brief, Firefly lets you use the Fire phone's camera to scan and immediately identify a product, pointing you to where you can buy it online — with the Amazon listing front and center, of course.
Firefly doesn't work with everything, or even close to everything. It works well with most smaller items (think groceries, books and Blu-ray discs) as long as they're still in the packaging. It did a decent job of identifying some of my 4-year-old's toys. Firefly even managed to identify the Fire phone itself when I pointed it at the package ... without getting sucked into some kind of endless vortex.
The UI for Firefly is pretty clever. A bunch of swirling dots fly around the screen, changing size, then coalesce around the object. If it works, an outline of the object appears, and the area outside of it dims. Finally, the object's listing and photo appear at the bottom.
When Firefly works, it's a wonder. None of the technology is particularly new, but the path from object to online has never been shorter. And it works fast — most objects are scanned in a just a second or two. It also work with text: You can scan in business cards, email addresses and even URLs. Like Shazam, Firefly saves everything you scan in a stream, so you can find them long after the scan.
Moreover, Firefly is addictive. The first time you successfully scan something, you'll start hunting for more things to scan. Identifying something actually feels like a reward — you feel good when it works and dismayed when it doesn't. This is digital gratification at its finest.

Camera and more

Amazon's 13-megapixel camera is a notch below most other smartphone cameras today. While photos taken outdoors in bright sunlight were great (they always are), low-light performance was so-so. Pics I took in a poorly lit basement were pretty grainy, although color was still pretty good. White balance in many pics was slightly off, making skin tones appear a bit green.
What the camera lacks in quality it makes up for in convenience. I really liked that it recommends when to use HDR (high dynamic range) mode, which can really improve shots with light and dark areas. I also love that there's a dedicated camera shutter button (which also activates Firefly with a longer press), though I wish it was on the right side of the phone instead of the left. Unfortunately, there's no slow-motion mode.
The best part, however, is the seamless integration with Amazon Cloud. Certainly, there's no shortage of ways to automatically back up your phones to the cloud, but with the Fire phone there are literally zero steps. Even if you've never used Amazon Cloud before, once you start using Fire, you can simply visit your photo cloud in a browser (while signed into Amazon) and all your pics just appear. This level of convenience may be fairly common now, but it was a hard slog to get here. Kudos to Amazon for ensuring this service works as it should.

I also have to give Amazon props for Mayday, the phone's one-button gateway to technical support. One touch, and within seconds (typically) you'll be talking to a customer-service rep in a small picture-in-picture window on the screen.
Fire phone camera appMayday reps can see what's on your phone's screen but not you, even though you can see them. They're polite and generally helpful, although I discovered that Dynamic Perspective is disabled for the duration of any Mayday call. That's inconvenient if you're calling aboutDynamic Perspective, which I was when Lastpass was mucking it up, but I managed to figure that one out on my own.
And, oh yeah, this is a phone. Call quality on the Fire was fine — about as good as anything you can get on AT&T's network. The 4G LTE connection was very solid in the NYC area.

Fire starter

When Jeff Bezos unveiled the Fire phone in June, there was a big expectation that Amazon would somehow differentiate on price, since standing out on features would be too difficult in such a crowded space. Instead, the Fire phone ends up being all about a certain special feature.
That feature isn't Firefly, or Dynamic Perspective or any other piece of technological trickery.
The Fire phone's true specialty is making its owner feel like the center of the universe. Whether it's Mayday's instant assistants, Firefly's crowd-pleasing scans, or the UI that responds to a mere glance, Fire is all about you, the customer.
Check that. It's about you, the Amazon customer. Amazon services run deep in the Fire phone, and it hooks new loyalists by including 12 months of Prime membership. You can't fault a company for evangelizing its own products, though, and Amazon's (unlike, say, Samsung's) are often best in class (Prime Video offers a lot that Netflix doesn't).
With that philosophy behind it, the Fire pushes Amazon further on the path of becoming the next Apple. Its hardware strategy was backward (tablets before phones) and its software borrowed, but Amazon has created a real ecosystem that fosters loyalty among its users.
For the Amazon faithful, Fire completes the platform with the most powerful and intimate of devices — the one that's carried at all times. For the uninitiated, it's the most powerful gateway drug the company could have built. Either way, Fire will sear Amazon's mark on you, and you'll probably like it.
